Make Your Own Essential Oil Insect Repellent

The winter was so long and exhausting, but summer finally came, bringing millions of nasty insects. These blood sucking vampires surrounded your houses, making it impossible to enjoy spending time outside. And, it is really quite simple to repel them, using pure and simple ingredients. Making original essential oil insect repellent will be simple and funny, and the results will be just amazingly good.

There are so many beautiful plants that will keep mosquitoes away from you. They do not appreciate, for example, eucalyptus, geranium or peppermint. They also dislike lemon, sage and even thyme. Lavender is always a good solution for similar problems, and rosemary also have certain advantages. You can design your own favorite mixture, or simply buy already mixed ones in your store.

Other nasty creatures such as flies cannot bare tea tree oil, and won't appreciate being near peppermint or eucalyptus either. They especially dislike cedar wood, and don't like Patchouli, and all these info can be cleverly used to protect you and your family members and friends this summer. Keep in mind that there are some other plants that will appeal certain insects, and one of such plants is known as lemongrass. It is well-known that bees just love it.

Ticks are also really nasty creatures, but, luckily, they will be repelled simply using one of these scents. The most effective ones will be geranium, cedar wood, thyme and tea tree. They won't appreciate spending time near peppermint either, and all thee info can be used in your advantage. Besides, you can make really appealing scents you will enjoy in, and this really sounds great.

Home repellents are really simple to make, especially rub-on ones. Basically, there are two ways of applying repellents - you can rub them in or spray them on your skin. Of course, you cannot apply essential oils directly on your skin, because some are quite hot, or could cause allergic reactions. They should be combined with oil carriers such as coconut oil, almond oil or sweet avocado oil.

Some basic ingredients you probably have in your home, and others can be simply found in the nearest store or in pharmacy. As it was said, it is very important not to apply essential oils as they are, but in such mixture. Some oils such as cinnamon are known as hot oils, and it means they can be aggressive on the skin. Using carrier oils will dilute it and make it harmless.

For making a perfect rub-on insect repellent, you will have to combine maybe eight drops of selected essential oils in your favorite combination with two large spoons of desired carrier oil. There are numerous combination that will be really effective, and it is always good to combine peppermint with some other appealing scents. In any case, don't use too much essentials.

For making a spray repellent, you have to add distilled water and witch hazel in your designed mixture, because oils will certainly clog the spray without this. You may replace witch hazel with, for example, vodka, in one small quantity, of course. You should never include plants such as lemongrass in any repellent, because bees simply love this scent, and this really would not be a very good idea.
