Convenient Information About Using Chamomile For Thrush Cures

By Barbara Dawson

Using chamomile for thrush and other minor ailments has become more common in recent years as knowledge about complementary medicine has widened among the population at large, with many people not wanting to use chemicals to treat everyday conditions. Thrush is a fungal infection caused by a yeast known as candida, which is carried in the bodies of most people with no ill effects occurring.

The yeast is carried in most people's bodies without causing any harm whatsoever. However, sometimes the immune system may become unbalanced in some way and an infection can result. Thrush tends to occur in areas of the body which are often damp, like the mouth, genitals or armpits; breastfeeding mothers often suffer from the condition on their nipples.

The symptoms are usually soreness and itchiness, with the skin in the affected area being inflamed and red. Ridding a sufferer of the condition can be difficult, but there are a number of herbal and natural substances which can complement more conventional treatments. Chamomile is one of those substances.

Humans have used extracts from this herb for medicinal purposes for many thousands of years, for a number of different conditions. For that reason, it can be a useful part of a family medicine chest. Two main varieties of the plant exist which are used medicinally, Roman and German, though both have similar effects.

The plant continues to be used as a mild sedative, with the tea being drunk before bedtime by many people who are prone to insomnia. The tea is also believed by many people to have a beneficial effect on the digestive system. It can work as an agent to act against excess of yeast in the body, helping the immune system to recover its balance.

The herb extract can also be incorporated into salves or ointments, which can then be applied to the skin. It should be noted though that the herb is a member of the ragweed family of plants, to which some people are allergic. If the application to the skin aggravates any feelings of itchiness then use should be discontinued.

As with any kind of medical treatment, professional advice should be sought before using chamomile for thrush. Even products which are considered entirely natural can have unforeseen side effects. Even when a product has been shown to work on one person, different circumstances may mean that it does not work in the same way for someone else.
