About Natural Lactose Free Probiotics

By Enid Hinton

Both bad and good bacteria live in your body. Probiotics are beneficial, friendly bacteria needed for good digestion and proper absorption of food. They are also really important for your immune system. Different dairy products are rich in these substances, for example yogurt, but if you are lactose intolerant or a vegan, there are some other natural sources of lactose free probiotics you can find.

One of the best natural sources of these highly beneficial substances is sauerkraut. This fermented cabbage is full of beneficial things, including vitamin C. It can be used fresh, as a salad, combined with a little bit of garlic and vegetable oil. You can also prepare numerous tasty dishes using this cheap and widely available form of lactose free fermented food.

Another fermented food rich in probiotics is Miso. It is highly nourishing, and it's also a very good source of vitamins B6 and K, as well as some other essential minerals, for example manganese, zinc and phosphorus. It is important to prepare it properly, to preserve all these valuable substances, especially beneficial food enzymes. That's why it shouldn't be over-heated.

If your kids drink sweetened sodas, offer them ginger beer instead. Fizzy and tasty, this drink contains natural probiotics that will boost up their immune system. Of course, you shouldn't overuse this drink, because it also contains sugar. In any case, this is really affordable, available and effective way of improving your digestion and your health in general, perfectly naturally.

If you prefer something different, try using coconut kefir. This interesting drink is made fermenting coconut milk, and can be a great source of not only good bacteria, but also numerous vitamins and minerals. For example, it contains potassium and magnesium. Tasty and sweet, coconut kefir has low glycemic index and can be used even if you are on a diet, and will improve your digestion really quickly.

Kombucha tea is a little bit more expensive alternative. It has really specific taste, and some people might find it unappealing, but it is really great for your health. It contains vitamin B12, good bacteria and other great substances, for example glucaric acid. Glucaric acid can also be used as a tumor prevention, and is highly valuable for your health.

Pickles are also very good for your digestion. Pickled foods fermented using spices and salt, such as pickled ginger and Japanese pickled plums contain a great amount of good bacteria. Of course, similar products that contain vinegar don't have such properties, because their acidity is a result of added vinegar, not the product of natural fermentation. Include pickled foods in your regular diet, and you will improve your digestion.

Probiotics are especially important when you have to take antibiotics. Antibiotics, as well as some other drugs, kill both bad and good bacteria in your organism. That's why you might get stomach upset and diarrhea. If you take these friendly bacteria, you can prevent such problems. They can help you stay healthy and keep your immune system in simply great condition.
