Supplements For Pain Relief In Horses Suffering From Arthritis

By Margaret Gibson

In the ancient times, finding a horse that has lived for a long time was not easy. Today, however, this has been made possible by giving the proper horse nutrition and appropriate management. These animals were mostly affected as they grew old and the effects of all the activities they did start affecting their bones and joints. This condition referred to as arthritis has no cure, but can, however, be contained, by using supplements for pain relief in horses.

The arthritis is degeneration to the particular surfaces of the joints, and this might cause inflammation. Though it can attack a horse at any age, in most cases, it is found in older horses. The inflammation that is caused leads to the erosion of structures of the joints. Older horses might lose some of the elasticity in their tendon and ligaments, and as they age, they might have fibrous tissues and this lead to thinning of the joint cartilage.

If you want to contain arthritis, the only way is that it is noticed early enough so that the necessary preventative measures are taken before the problem gets worse. If you are to notice the problem before it escalated, then you need to understand the signs that your house may have this condition and look out to find out if your horse has any of them. Early treatment will lead to you having a healthy horse.

One way you can know if your horse is affected is when you notice that they is a change in the way they walk, the, raising their heads or even when they hollow their backs. When you see these signs, you may require having it checked as the animal may be experiencing a lot of pain. The vet will then let you know what is affecting your horse.

The other sign that should warn you is when the horse is not willing to do some of the tasks that come easy in the past. Pain is one of the things that make the horse less active as it will not want to move around. If this is the case, you need to have the vet inspecting it so that they can determine if it is arthritis causing the change of mood.

You may also notice that the joints are puffy when the animal has not received proper medication. The lack of medication causes the body to begin its internal regulation of the body system to manage the pain. The self-management of the pain is the one that causes the swelling of the joints. Swollen joints should worry you and call for attention soonest possible.

Sometimes you may find that your horse seems to resist movement. Most people will ignore this as a sign that the animal is not well. Strive to know why your horse is behaving in that manner and if you find that there is some warmth on its joints, and then it is pain that is affecting it.

The horse is a good human friend, but you also need to make sure that all precaution is taken to ensure that the aging period of your companion is not a batch of painful days. When you are concerned with your companion, you will be able to detect any possible problem.
